Florida Uniform Directed Trust Act: What You Need to Know

This program is part of the Outstanding Speaker Series hosted by Community Foundation Tampa Bay.

Jennifer Robinson is the Associate General Counsel and Senior Vice President at The Northern Trust, a leading provider of wealth management, asset servicing, asset management and banking to corporations, institutions, affluent families and individuals. Prior to joining Northern Trust in 2011, Jennifer was a shareholder at Gunster (2008-2011), and partner/shareholder at Ruden McClosky (1996-2008).

This presentation will outline the Florida Uniform Directed Trust Act, provide insight into circumstances when it would be useful to have a directed trust and provide some thoughts and comments about directed trusts from the perspective of fiduciaries.

Jennifer J. Robinson, JD
Northern Trust Wealth Management

Jennifer Robinson serves as Associate General Counsel at The Northern Trust Company and leads the team of trust lawyers in the U.S. that support Northern’s Wealth Management business. Jennifer has twenty-eight years of experience in trust and estate practice.

Prior to joining Northern Trust in 2011, Jennifer was a shareholder at Gunster (2008-2011), and partner/shareholder at Ruden McClosky (1996-2008). Her practice at both firms focused solely on estate planning, estate and trust administration, guardianship administration and litigation matters arising from estates, trusts and guardianships. Her private practice clients included corporate fiduciaries, individuals, and charitable organizations.

Jennifer is active with the Real Property Probate and Trust Law (“RPPTL”) Section of the Florida Bar and is a member of several RPPTL committees, including Probate Law and Procedure, Trust Law, Probate Litigation and Guardianship and Advance Directives. Jennifer currently serves as Co-Vice Chair of the Trust Law Committee and is a member of the Executive Council.

Jennifer received a J.D. from Nova Southeastern University's Shepard Broad Law Center where she was a member of the Nova Southeastern Law Review.

Jennifer serves on the Board of Directors of the Humane Society of Broward County, isJennifer is a graduate of Leadership Broward Class XXI and previously served on the Board of Directors of both the Lighthouse of Broward County and Winterfest. She is also a past board member of the Estate Planning Council of Broward County and a past Sustainer of the Junior League.
